City contribution rebate — not a tax credit
If the Hanson Shen campaign joins Markham’s Candidate Contribution Rebate Program, eligible Markham voters and permanent residents living in Markham who contribute $50 or more may apply to the City for a 75% rebate, up to a maximum rebate of $150. Campaign participation must be confirmed before a rebate can be promised.
- Individual Ontario residents only—no corporate, union, business or group donations.
- Maximum $1,200 to one candidate and $5,000 total to candidates running for the same council.
- For total contributions over $100, the donor’s name and address are published in the campaign financial statement.
- Municipal campaign contributions are not eligible for income-tax or property-tax credits.
